I have been to Jammu innumerable number of times as I have a strong connection with this city. The reason being is that my better half is from this city. Over the years I have grown to like this city though much remains yet to be explored. Jammu, the historical city is located in the state of Jammu & Kashmir (right now UT). This beautiful city is filled with rich history and culture and has and great religious importance. Those going to Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine have to first come to Jammu and then pass proceed onwards to Katra and Vaishno Devi.

Taking a flight from Delhi to Jammu is the quickest way to travel as the flight takes only around 1 hour and 15 minutes. However, the truth is it takes at least 5 to 6 hours to reach from destination to destination if we add the taxi journey, check in, security check and boarding etc. There are several flights available daily with GoAir, Vistara, Indigo and SpiceJet flying to Jammu, Srinagar and Leh, making it a convenient option for those who prefer to save time. The cost of a Delhi to Jammu flight can vary from Rs 4000 to 20000, depending on various factors like booking date, availability, cancellations etc.
Delhi to Jammu Train
This is the most preferred and more affordable option for those traveling from Delhi to Jammu. There are more than dozen trains running from Delhi to Jammu, with the journey time of around 12 hours, with Jammu Rajdhani taking only 9 hours. The Jammu Rajdhani -12425 ( New Delhi to Jammu Tawi ) leaves New Delhi at 20:40 and reaches Jammu at 05:45 the next day. The fare is around Rs 1200, 1700 and 2500 approx for AC 3, AC 2 and AC 1 respectively.
Delhi to Jammu Bus
Traveling by bus is another affordable and easy option. You can take State Transport Buses from ISBT Kashmiri Gate, New Delhi. However, I always prefer booking my bus tickets from Redbus app and the boarding point can be RK Ashram, New Delhi, Kashmiri Gate or Majnu Ka Tila. You can enter these details while booking the bus. The buses these days have become very comfortable with sleeper options wherein one can travel while sleeping on a sleeper like in the trains. The journey time is around 14 hours but in no time you are in Jammu.

Jammu is also known as Jammu Tavi as the city is located on the banks of the Tawi River. The Tawi river originates from the Shivalik Hills, flows for about 200 kilometers and ultimately joins the Chenab River. It is considered as one of the main sources of drinking water for the residents of Jammu city although the river has been dying slowly over the years. The Tawi River is surrounded by several ancient temples and religious shrines that hold great cultural and religious importance. The river is therefore not only the essential source of water for Jammu but also holds an important place in the history, culture, and religion of Jammu.
Weather in Jammu
Jammu has hot summers and cool winters. The summer months starts from April to June end and the temperatures ranging from 25 to 45°C and above. Then comes the monsoon season in Jammu which lasts from July to September, with moderate to heavy rainfall. The winter months start from October end till February with temperatures 5 to 15°C. During these months, Jammu experiences cool and clear weather, making it a great time to visit for those who enjoy cooler temperatures.
